The Backstreet Boys perform Tuesday at the Saddledome. Hanson performs Sept. 12 at MacEwan Hall. New Kids on the Block perform at the Saddledome on Nov. 19.
Just over a year ago, being part of a boy band was considered to be the dorkiest gig in pop.
Unless your name was Justin Timberlake, the mid-2000s was a cruel time for those who rode the boy-band boom of the late '90s.
The Backstreet Boys and Hanson struggled to launch comebacks and found it hard to buck the lame-o stigma of having been a part of the dreaded pre-teen pop trend. [Read more]

The largely female audience in attendance at Wednesday night's Backstreet Boys (BSB) performance at the Essar Centre didn't care that the boys are no longer boys at all.
Ranging in age from 28 (Nick Carter) to 35 (Howie Dorough), the men came out swinging clad in robes and gloves to perform their 1999 hit Larger Than Life in a makeshift boxing ring.
The frenzied fans also didn't care that the four of the original five BSB appeared a bit uncomfortable dancing in stereotypical boy-band fashion. [Read more]

It won't come as a spoiler to fans of the Backstreet Boys that this summer's tour across North America is heavy on nostalgia. There is, obviously, plenty to be had.
As America's best-selling boy band of all time, the product of the imagination of now-disgraced music mogul Lou Pearlman will forever have a place in music history, and not just for their wildly successful tours and sales of CDs and merchandise.
The Backstreet Boys, like New Kids on the Block before them, solidified the notion to a changing entertainment world that five clean-cut kids could be recruited, coached and sold to a record-buying public, and that bands need not only be formed by neighbourhood musicians coming together to suburban garages and basements to learn on their own. Backstreetmania relived at Essar Centre
|
Backstreet Boys weren't always 'n sync and the once larger than life pop band couldn't fill the Essar Centre but the boys delivered a getup- and-dance performance Wednesday.
After Brian Littrell's young son Baylee introduced the band, its members kicked - and punched -off the show in a boxing ring, belting out Larger than Life.
The smart set list revolved around songs that first earned BSB its pop star status in the 1990s, like,Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely, Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)andBackstreet's Back. [Read more]

Backstreet Boys play Sudbury Arena

The Backstreet Boys played to a packed house of screaming young women and girls at the Sudbury Arena Tuesday night.
The two-hour concert was chock full of hits such as I Want It That Way, Incomplete, Quit Playing Games (With My Heart), As Long As You Love Me, I'll Never Break Your Heart and Backstreet's Back.
Fans of the boy band sported hand-made t-shirts with Backstreet Boys lyrics painted on them and held up hand-made signs with slogans like "I've loved you since I hit puberty." [Read more]

4,000 fans, about 90 percent female screamed for hours in delight as the Back Street Boys took to the stage at the ESSAR CENTRE.
The Sault Ste. Marie stop in the bands North American tour didn't disappoint, that is if you could hear the music over the enthusiastic crowd.

Backstreet incites screams
|
Across section of boy band fanatics, including children, teens and adult women crammed into The Sudbury Arena on Tuesday for what was arguably the biggest concert to come to Sudbury. The Backstreet Boys.
Before the show began, gaggles of squealing teenagers bounded about the arena, many draped in Backstreet Boys T-Shirts-- some with Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Littrell scrawled across their backs.
"He touched THIS hand!" a girl's voice excitedly reported from the steps behind me. [Read more]

Backstreet Boys still popular teen address
|
HIGHLAND PARK -- In the wake of the rejuvenated boy band craze that's found New Kids on the Block and New Edition reuniting, it's not surprising to see the Backstreet Boys back on the road. Though this summer's tour appears to be a comeback of sorts for the famed vocal fivesome -- recently reduced to a quartet -- surviving members Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean would probably argue the group never left. And while the guys' new CD "Unbreakable" ignited the European charts, it went virtually unnoticed in America, although the lack of attention had no effect on ticket sales Sunday night at the always inviting Ravinia Festival in Highland Park.
Amidst a completely sold out pavilion and lawn, the Backstreet Boys blended slick dance steps and percolating pop grooves that have thus far yielded an astounding 100 million albums sold. As it was in the group's best interest, the show started with the familiar steps of "Larger Than Life," mixed with the beats of "Eye of the Tiger" and performed in an inflatable boxing ring. The Boys are back in town
|
EDMONTON - Boy band member -- now there's a designation not many self-respecting musicians would ever want to be saddled with.
Yet how many of those same musicians are filling hockey arenas -- like Brian Littrell and the rest of the Backstreet Boys?
Almost 16 years after the Boys were formed by self-styled svengali Lou Pearlman, Backstreet is still a going concern. Littrell -- no longer a boy at the age of 33 -- seems to have a refreshingly levelheaded view of what he does. "That's my job," he says. "It's how I make my living -- but it's wonderful that I also love what I do." [Read more]

Backstreet Boys back on tour
|
The Backstreet Boys beat New Kids On The Block to the punch in terms of regrouping when they released Never Gone in 2005 yet there seems to be little animosity between the two factions.
In fact Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is hoping for the best for the Boston-based boy band.
"We are excited and we're actually rooting for the New Kids because what they represent is what we represent which is good pop music that needs to come back and stick around," Carter says prior to launching their Canadian tour in St. John's. "So we're rooting for them and we want them to succeed." [Read more]

Backstreet Boys back, but no longer boys
|
The Backstreet Boys, down a man but still a draw, did their best to rekindle their late-'90s heyday at a sold-out Ravinia on Sunday.
Like a boxer again lured out of retirement, the onetime boy band champs came out swinging. The quartet delivered its opening salvo, "Larger Than Life," decked out like prizefighters in robes and gym trunks; the dance moves echoed the look, the singers trading choreographed blows in a makeshift ring. Pared down to a foursome following the 2006 departure of Kevin Richardson, remaining players Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough worked through a high-energy 100-minute set that drew on the entirety of the group's 15-year career. [Read more]

Backstreet Boys back in Bloomington
|
Hundreds of fans gathered Friday for the return of the boy- band phenomenon, Backstreet Boys.
As the members took stage, the big screens featured each member walking out in boxing robes, each with a different color around the edges. Simultaneously, a photograph was shown of each member with miscellaneous information next to it, as though they were athletes.
Jessica Collier, freshman elementary education major, has been a fan of the Backstreet Boys since she first heard them. She was wearing a black T-shirt that said, "As long as he loves me" on the front and "A.J." on the back. Collier had two friends who were wearing shirts that said, "He's got it going on" with "Nick" on the back and "Helpless when he smiles" with "B-Rock" on the back. [Read more]

Backstreet Boys are back to just being boys
|
Backstreet was back Saturday night at the Minnesota State Fair, and, what do you know, they were all right.
It's getting close to a decade since the aging teen-pop act still known as the Backstreet Boys hit the peak of their fame, but they've somehow figured out how to keep a spark of the old days going, even though these Boys are mostly in their 30s these days.
It probably helps matters that they're now down one Boy — Kevin Richardson left the group in 2006 — because Saturday's show felt leaner, looser and much more fun than the last time the Twin Cities saw them, at the Target Center in summer 2005. Back then, the Backstreet Boys were in the midst of a mostly unsuccessful campaign to act all grown-up and transition into the light-rock radio realm. [Read more]

Backstreet Boy Nick Carter talks about work, fans, upcoming show
|
Backstreet's back on tour with a new album and one less band member but the boys don't seem to know the meaning of being lonely, and according to Nick Carter, are on track to once again becoming larger than life.
The foursome will hit Sault Ste. Marie with their smooth harmonies and upbeat stage show Wednesday to promote their latest album, Unbreakable. Tagging along are little sister band, Girlicious.
It is the Backstreet Boys first offering – and tour – without Kevin Richardson, who left the group on amicable terms in June 2006 to pursue other interests. [Read more]

Backstreets back — but now there are four
|
They may be older, wiser and short one original member, but the Backstreet Boys are still a hot ticket. Reserved seats for their concert at Ravinia are sold out, and the remaining lawn tickets are going fast.
Just don't call this a "reunion" tour.
"There are a lot of misconceptions out there," says founding member Nick Carter, laughing. "People think we broke up or are returning after some time off." [Read more]

Backstreet Boys Party Like Its 1999 at Wolf Trap
|
The Backstreet Boys still make girls scream. And the yelps they inspire these days don't sound grown-up or ironic, either. No, all through Monday's show at a packed Wolf Trap, the Boys were hit with the sort of meaning-of-life squeals historically reserved for Tiger Beat cover kids. That's a role they haven't filled in this century.
Three of the band's remaining members -- Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and A.J. McLean -- are in their 30s; the fourth, reality-TV himbo Nick Carter, is a weathered 28. (Kevin Richardson, the oldest original BSB'er, is now 37, but left the group two years ago.) Littrell, who spent the night smirking and giggling, was about the only person on the premises who grasped the goofiness of playing a teen idol so far past one's teens. But he, like everybody in the Zip code on this night, was having a blast nonetheless. [Read more]

Some pre-teens and teens lose their minds these days over the Jonas Brothers, but a decade ago, the Backstreet Boys caused the same frenzy. Singers Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson sold more than 75 million albums worldwide. Two of their CDs, "Backstreet Boys" in 1997 and "Millennium" in 1999, each sold more than 10 million copies.
Backstreet Boys, who last performed in Atlantic City in July 2005 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, return to the resort to promote their sixth full-length studio CD, "Unbreakable," which was released in October. The CD includes production by Grammy-winner John Shanks, who worked previously with Kelly Clarkson and Bon Jovi among others.
Carter, Dorough, Littrell and McLean took part in a telephone press conference with the media before their tour started. [Read more]

My laptop decided to give up on me once again. I'm currently on my moms normal computer but I can hardly go on here, so I don't know how much I'll be able to update or read my emails. My laptop will be picked up on tuesday to get fixed but I don't know how long it takes for them to fix it. Chinar wil hopefully be able to do some updates, but please don't expect any from me or any replies to emails.
*edit: My mom allowed me to have her laptop up in my room now so I can still do some updates, but since I don't have all my stuff on here I don't know how much I can do.

Backstreet Boys are hardly boys coming into show at Coliseum
|
Now 15 years into their history, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Backstreet Boys are rapidly maturing beyond their eager-beaver early 20s. Take for example, the BSB known to his fans as Howie D, and to his family as Howie Dorough. Howie hits (zowie!) the big 3-5 this summer.
“Yeah, the big 35 — I’m the old man now,” he affirms (for the record, Nick Carter is 28, A.J. McLean is 30 and Brian Littrell is 33; if recently defected member Kevin Richardson were still on board, he’d be the “old man” at 36).
Howie hits that milestone the same day as his Backstreet Boys concert Aug. 22 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington (8 p.m., with opening act Girlicious). [Read more]

They once scaled music's highest peaks.
And now the Backstreet Boys are back for another ascent.

n Their 1997 "Backstreet Boys" and 1999 "Millennium" CD received the Diamond Award from the recording industry for sales of more than 10 million each.| [Read more]

Hardly heavyweights but still contenders
|
Twenty-six thousand pulsating fallopian tubes can't be wrong. With a screamingly received set of hits, harmonies and hooey, four choreographing men acquitted themselves well enough at a packed Molson Amphitheatre, shedding their unbecoming boy-band label slightly in the process. A slick 100-minute show of punchy pop and swooning ballads that began with a hokey boxing ring didn't prove Backstreet Boys a legitimate contender - what crown? what weight class? - but the quartet is at least not washed up.
The boys of Backstreet Boys never were "backstreet," as I interpret the term, and now they are no longer boys, just as the New Kids on the Block are not new, and just as 'N Sync these days no longer synchronizes. Fact is, Backstreet Boys now pay full fare on Florida transit systems - but the band's audience has grown up as well. [Read more]

Backstreet Boys wow local talent
|
When I first arrived at Nava Restaurant in Richmond Hill and confirmed my identity for my press pass, I was shown to the press area beside the red carpet.
Just to think, it was about 10 years ago when I was at the Backstreet Boys concert in Toronto screaming their names, as if they were part of the Beatles hype.
Now, I’m a fan in respect of their musical talent and staying afloat in the music industry for so long. Of course, let’s not forget they are easy on the eyes (wink!). [Read more]

It started like a beautiful dream many music critics have had at one time or another the last decade -- standing inside the squared circle with a member of a boy band in the opposite corner, in this case the Backstreet Boys.
But alas the chance to rage against boy band (now man band) mania was not to be last night at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre as the group came into town on their Unbreakable world tour behind the 2007 album of the same name.
Instead the remaining quartet (Kevin Richardson jumped ship in 2006) of Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough and Nick Carter provided more ammunition that the genre is still beating. [Read more]

It's hard to hate these Boys
|
The planet is no worse off for getting Backstreet back.
This stuff is plainly not for me and, I must confess, the hours leading up to long-in-the-tooth boy band the Backstreet Boys' comeback gig at the Molson Amphitheatre last night involved a lot of sulking and self-pity on my part.
Whatever, though. Having weathered a half-dozen of the Boys' performances over the years – I first saw them at dingy Robert Guertin Arena in Hull 11 years ago, back when Quebec had beaten the rest of Canada, and most of the world, in contracting Backstreet Fever – I knew it would be painless enough and oddly satisfying from a showbiz-professionalism standpoint. Boys bring it all back flawlessly

It was what the Backstreet Boys do best, whipping a crowd of young adoring women into a bouncing sing-a-long frenzy, through warm harmonies and dizzying dance moves.
A decade ago, the five boys were the dreams of teeny-boppers across the world, but it was clear last night at
Scotiabank Place that the Backstreet Boys haven't strayed far from those same hearts.
The crowd of around 6,000 consisted of mostly women -- young adults in their 20s and 30s -- the very fans whose teenage bedrooms would have been plastered with posters of the boys. [Read more]

Backstreet Boys raise the roof at private party

OTTAWA - The red carpet looked a little worse for wear, but that didn't stop the Backstreet Boys from basking in the glory of screaming fans and bursting flashbulbs Monday night at an after-party following their concert at Scotiabank Place.
A throng of young women - and a few young men - took over half a block of Clarence Street in advance of the Boys' arrival at the Tila Tequila nightclub. Traffic on the street was chaos as party-goers and curious on-lookers also jammed the street in front of the club, hoping to catch a glimpse of the longtime heartthrobs, known for such hits as, I Want It That Way and Larger Than Life. The Backstreet Boys were the fresh-scrubbed face of music nine years ago, jostling for pop supremacy with Britney Spears and *NSYNC and becoming trivia question footnotes along the way (Q: What is the only group in history to have three consecutive albums certified for sales of over one million units in Canada? A: Backstreet Boys.)
Aside from ex-*NSYNC heartthrob Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys -- now men, some with boys of their own -- are the only ones working with any consistency. The band's current world tour features 13 Canadian stops, (they play Ottawa's Scotiabank Place tonight) and while the impending dates haven't caused traffic jams or heart attacks, as they once did, Backstreet's back and drawing positive notices for its live show. Backsteet Boys keep on going

Many boy bands of yesteryear have seen their time and whittled away into faded memories of concert programs and t-shirts, likely hidden at the back of the closest.
Though bubble-gum pop band New Kids on the Block have been resurrected, the ever-familiar Backstreet Boys have never left the music scene. It’s hard to believe that 15 years have passed since they first stepped into the music world and broke concert sales records.
Even with all hardships such as major health issues, substance abuse and the loss of one member, Kevin Richardson — the Backstreet Boys just keep on going. [Read more]
